Kerala has further strengthened its position as the global destination for sustainable tourism with the Blue Flag certificate given to Kappad Beach in Kozhikode and Chal Beach in Kannur. This global Blue Flag certification is an international award given by the Denmark-based Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) that acknowledges beaches’ compliance with strict environmental, safety, and sustainability standards.
The Blue Flag is an international eco-label that is awarded based on 33 strict criteria such as water quality, environmental education, conservation, and safety. With this recognition, Kappad and Chal beaches are now among the few that are recognized as eco-tourism sites, which will further boost Kerala tourism among tourists who are more conscious about the environment.
The state’s Tourism Minister P. A. Mohamed Riyas described this achievement as a sign of the state’s dedication to maintaining the natural beauty of the region while also promoting sustainable beach tourism in Kerala. “This achievement further strengthens Kerala’s position as one of the world’s premier eco-friendly tourism destinations, which caters to tourists who are conscious of the environment,” he added.
The two beaches newly added to the list of blue beaches in Kerala have their own unique feature that attracts tourists to them. Kappad Beach is linked with the arrival of Vasco da Gama in India in 1498 and is a perfect combination of history and natural beauty. Chal Beach, on the other hand, is a quiet beach that has golden sand, good surfing and is shaded by pine trees, making it a perfect place for those who love nature.
The certifications awarded to Kerala Beaches add weight to the Kerala beach holiday as a preferred choice among travelers to offer them a guaranteed unique and sustainable tourism experience.
